>>NCLB School, District, and State Reports
The federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act has imposed specific accountability and reporting requirements on states. The NCLB reports present school-, district-, and state-level information in those areas mandated by NCLB, which are as follows: status regarding Adequate Yearly Progress; information on highly qualified teachers; attendance and dropout data; and assessment data that has incorporated all of the conditions mandated under NCLB for meeting federally approved proficiency levels.
The results displayed on NCLB Reports are based on the state assessment data with the NCLB conditions applied. Additionally, the NCLB data incorporates the data appeals submitted by districts/schools that have been granted by the NJDOE. Therefore, the data in the NCLB Reports may be different from the data displayed on the NJ School Report Cards.

The annual New Jersey School Report Card is required under a 1995 state law. It presents thirty-five fields of information for each school in the following categories: school environment, students, student performance indicators, staff, and district finances.
The assessment results displayed on the New Jersey School Report Cards are based on the state assessment data without any NCLB conditions applied. Therefore, the assessment data in the NJ School Report Card may be different from the assessment data displayed on the NCLB Reports where there have been NCLB conditions applied to the test results.

Morristown Area Schools
There are 18 schools in Morristown, NJ, including 10 public schools and 8 private schools. Morristown public schools belong to five districts, Educational Services Commission of Morris County School District, Morris School District, Office of Education Department of Children and Families School District, Office of Education Juvenile Justice Commission School District and Unity Charter School District.
There are 12 Morristown elementary schools, 10 Morristown middle schools and 7 Morristown high schools.
Public Schools
Per the district’s web site, the Morris School District serves the communities of Morristown and Morris Township (pre-K through high school) and Morris Plains (grades 9-12) by providing a supportive and challenging educational environment for a total student population of approximately 4,700. Within the District there is one preschool, three primary schools (K-2), three intermediate schools (3-5), one multiage magnet school (K-5), one middle school (6-8), and one high school.
In addition to our pre-K-12 program, the Morris School District operates an innovative Community School that offers an extensive adult school curriculum for lifelong learners. The Community School also provides a nurturing before and after-school childcare program, Sunrise Sunset, for Morris School District children of busy parents. Housed in each of the District's elementary schools, Sunrise Sunset offers a safe, supportive and supervised environment in which boys and girls can work and play before and after school. The Community School's ever-popular summer program, Summer Plus, provides children with an active, enjoyable, and local alternative to summer camp.

Faculty Information/ Faculty to student Ratio
All 520 of Morris School District certificated staff members meet the New Jersey standard of "Highly Qualified" teacher. Faculty include classroom teachers, special education teachers, child study team members, guidance counselors, enrichment/"gifted & talented" teachers, nurses, library/media specialists, art teachers, and ELL teachers.
Average Class Size
The average elementary class size is approximately 17 pupils. Class sizes at the middle school and high school level vary depending upon the subject. For example, a high school Advanced Placement physics class may have as few as 10 students while a social studies class may have 20 or more.

Private Schools
Delbarton is an independent college preparatory school for boys grades seven through twelve. The School is administered by the Roman Catholic Benedictine monks of St. Mary's Abbey and is rooted in the values of the Christian community and in the monastic tradition of a strong liberal arts education. The Delbarton community comprises a faculty of eighty men and women and a student body of approximately five hundred and forty boys. The School welcomes individuals of every race, religious belief, and national and ethnic origin who wish to contribute to the community and to be nourished by it.
The Peck School, founded in 1893, is an independent coeducational day school of approximately 300 students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Morristown's Villa Walsh Academy is a private school. It is all female and Roman Catholic affiliated, serving 248 students in grades 7-12.

Coursework covering theology, mathematics, the sciences, including computer science, humanities, social sciences and the fine arts presents a rigorous challenge and solid preparation for a college-bound population. Charter Schools
Unity Charter School is a tuition-free, public school that offers a unique approach to education for students from Kindergarten to 8th Grade in Morristown and surrounding communities in New Jersey. Per the school’s web site, Unity provides quality academic programs that integrate the principles of sustainability with the New Jersey Core Content Curriculum Standards in our courses of study. We strive to develop capable confident children who have an understanding of the importance of maintaining a healthy planet for current and future generations.
Unity serves approximately 100 students in classrooms with low student-to-teacher ratios. The students are encouraged to actively participate in setting goals for their personal academic achievement while meeting the New Jersey Core Curriculum requirements. We strive to make our learning environment caring and respectful to promote academic success.
Admission to Unity Charter School is by lottery. Students are accepted from any school district in New Jersey, however priority is given to siblings of currently enrolled students and residents of the Morris School District.
Unity accepts all applications and does not discriminate based on sex, race, color, religion, handicaps or disabilities.
The lottery is held in January each year at the school for those applications received before the deadline. After that deadline, applicants will be placed on a waiting list in order of receipt.

Special Education
Shepard High School is located in Morristown, NJ. It is a private, special education school that serves 122 students in grades 8-12. Shepard High School is coed (school has male and female students) and is Nonsectarian in orientation.

Shepard Schools are state-approved private school programs for classified students with behavioral and/or learning problems. We service students in middle school (grades 5-8) and high school (grades 9-12). We are centrally located in historic Morristown, New Jersey. Our current enrollment is comprised of over 130 high school and middle school age children. The school day operates from 8:20 a.m. to 2:20 p.m. Transportation is provided by the sending school district.
